Assistant Video Editor

Full Time | El Segundo, CA (On site at our production facility)

About The Role:

Sweet Spot Media is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Editor to join our in-house team in El Segundo, California.

This role is ideal for an early-career creative who is passionate about video editing and eager to grow within a fast-paced agency environment. You’ll support our editing team across a wide range of client projects while gaining hands-on experience in post-production workflows, motion graphics, and content creation for digital and broadcast platforms.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from experienced editors, contribute to high-quality work, and develop your craft across multiple brands and media channels.

Key Responsibilities:

Editing  Support & Project Execution:

    • Assist editors and creative teams in assembling cuts using Adobe Premiere Pro &  Davinici Resolve
    • Prepare project files, organize footage, and manage media assets across multiple projects
    • “Research, verify, and source footage, archival materials, and visual references from credible sources to support editorial needs
    • Execute basic edits for social content, internal projects, and client deliverables
    • Support versioning, formatting, and exporting across multiple platforms

Post-Production Workflow:

    • Maintain organized project structures, file systems, and media management practices
    • Assist in prepping timelines for senior editors, including syncing, string-outs, and selects
    • Help with turnovers, exports, and delivery for both digital and broadcast needs

Motion Graphics & Finishing (Support Level):

    • Assist with simple motion graphics, text animations, and templated assets in After Effects
    • Support editors with basic visual effects, lower thirds, and formatting tasks
    • Learn and contribute to finishing touches including light color correction and audio cleanup

Platform & Format Adaptation:

    • Help adapt content for various platforms including social (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) and broadcast
    • Support formatting needs such as aspect ratios, captions, and deliverable specs

Collaboration & Communication:

    • Work closely with editors, producers, and account teams to support project needs
    • Participate in internal reviews and creative discussions
    • Take direction well and proactively seek feedback to improve skills

Qualifications:

Experience:

    • 0–2 years of experience in video editing, internships, freelance, or relevant coursework
    • A portfolio or reel demonstrating editing fundamentals and creative potential

Technical Skills:

    • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro & Davinci Resolve
    • Basic familiarity with Adobe After Effects (templates, simple animations, etc.)
    • Understanding of editing workflows, file organization, and media management
    • Basic knowledge of codecs, exports, and formatting for digital platforms

Creative Skills:

    • Strong sense of pacing, storytelling, and visual composition
    • Passion for video content across social, digital, and broadcast platforms
    • Eagerness to learn and grow within a creative team

Soft Skills:

    • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
    • Positive attitude, team-oriented mindset, and openness to feedback

Nice to Have:

    • On-set or production experience (PA work, student film shoots, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience across a variety of client projects and industries
  • Mentorship from experienced editors and creative leads
  • Opportunity to grow into a full Editor role over time
